PEPP Montreal

PEPP Montreal (Prevention and Early Intervention Program for Psychoses), under the direction of the Douglas Institute’s Director of Clinical Research, Dr. Ashok Malla, was the first recipient of a Zhubin Foundation Grant. In this fourth year of support, the funds will go toward PEPP’s new Multiple Family Group Intervention Program. The launch of this program in Montreal is in response to a lack of any meaningful services available to families of young people who are being treated for a first onset of a psychotic disorder. It is designed to assist families of young individuals with a psychotic disorder who have to deal with the longer-term consequences of living with this devastating condition that affects their children.

Dr. Malla provided our guests with a brief report on the activities and progress that PEPP Montreal has achieved in the past year, in part funded by last year’s grant from the Zhubin Foundation, and his aspirations for the coming year. Dr. Malla also introduced us to a parent from the PEPP program. This father gave a stirring personal account of the challenges his family has faced and of the invaluable help and support they have received through PEPP.
